LAW and POLICIES

The Cree Traditional Activities Enhancement Program is a jointly financed program that provides annual project funding for individual Tallymen or trappers whose traplines have been affected by industrial forestry. All approved projects must be directed at improving or enhancing the trappers’ traditional activities within the requirements of the corresponding agreement with Quebec.

As per the agreement with Quebec, in particular article 3, eligible projects include:

  1. building, replacing or relocating facilities (camps, docks, etc.);
  2. facilitating travel by trappers in the course of their activities;
  3. building of infrastructure and upgrading of specific sites of interest (gathering places, etc.);
  4. other measures aimed at reinforcing the exercise of hunting, fishing, and trapping activities by the Crees.

Funding managed through Cree Nation Government Forestry Programs are governed by a set of policies and procedures, which will set the conditions contained within resulting funding agreements. For a full description of eligibility, as well as conditions of funding, please contact your Local Forestry Officer or the Cree Nation Government Forestry Department.

Because of the evolving nature of governance throughout Eeyou Istchee and the ability for Cree Nation Governement to create not just policy, but laws for the territory, this current set of policies is under review. Once approved, we will update this site to include the most up to date version of the policies/laws that govern the Cree Traditional Activities Enhancement Program.
